Much to my surprise, whilst driving to Helmeringhausen there was a huge thunderstorm. Of course, it does rain in the desert, but one doesn’t expect is a flash-flood! The sudden downpour provides much needed water to the dry landscape, but the soil is not porous at all and even two minutes of rain lies in large puddles. The fields quickly become flooded and the roads become sticky with mud. A day later you would never have known that the area had been nourished by rain.
