The area where Ai-Ais and the Fish River Canyon are situated is an absolutely stark place, filled with nothingness and sand. Even the bushes seem dull. The only trees here are the famous Quiver Trees, and then only one or two are dotted around providing little or no shade to even the smallest of creatures. To find beauty here you certainly need to have an open mind and perhaps some rose-coloured glasses. The Fish River Canyon, for a place that has some water, is just as stark. While there are a few reeds near the water, that is just about it. How anything survives out here is somewhat of a miracle.
