Duwisib Castle is situated pretty much in the middle of nowhere. It rises up from the earth where nothing else seems to do so and provides a monument to the stark landscape surrounding it. There is a lot of history here which I can’t remember very well, but it is something along the lines of this: A man and his wife came over to the country and found this spot where there was a spring and decided to build their house there. They built the fortress and the husband died tragically soon afterwards in the First World War whilst the two were overseas, devastated the wife never returned, leaving the castle to the elements. After being bought from a local farmer, the area now belongs to the Namibian government and is a popular tourist destination.
